Last night's tranquility was shattered in South Napa Marketplace when a male subject decided to use large rocks as missiles against passing vehicles. According to a statement obtained by the Napa Police Department, the barrage began just before midnight, igniting chaos on the quiet streets.
Police officers, summoned by the reports of vehicular vandalism, arrived only to join the list of targets for the assailant, Ruben Lopez. The confrontation escalated quickly, with one officer narrowly escaping injury when a rock struck their leg. During the melee, officers resorted to less-lethal force, using bean bag shotgun rounds in an attempt to subdue Lopez, who subsequently attempted to flee.
The pursuit was short-lived, as Lopez continued his defiance, hurling yet another rock before being apprehended. During the upheaval, not only did Lopez strike fear into the night, but he also left his mark on two patrol vehicles, rendering them damaged.
Once in custody, the consequences of the night's turmoil came into full view. Lopez faced a multitude of charges, presenting a ledger of offenses that included assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, obstructing an executive officer, vandalism, brandishing a weapon that was not a firearm, being under the influence of a controlled substance, and a violation of probation.
Lopez has been securely detained within the confines of the Napa County Department of Corrections, where the legal process will hold sway over his ultimate fate.
