Austin's economy is primed to get a creative boost thanks to the City of Austin Economic Development Department. They've just rolled out a new funding program aimed at supporting the city's small organizations, individual artists, and small arts businesses. To infuse the local cultural scene with fresh energy and innovation, the Nexus Grant will provide $5,000 in grants designed to back creative public endeavors.
Sylnovia Holt-Rabb, Director of the Economic Development Department, highlighted that the grant aims to "turn their creative visions into reality, contributing to the vibrancy and cultural richness of Austin." By providing this financial aid, the City hopes to both empower artists and to sprout impactful projects that will resonate throughout the community. The applications are set to quickly open next Tuesday and will stay open for almost a month.
Austin-based cultural or artistic entities in operation for at least a year are eligible to apply, provided they're based within the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area which encompasses a handful of surrounding counties. More details on eligibility and how to apply can be found on the Nexus Grant website.
To assist potential applicants in navigating the grant process, the Economic Development Department is endeavoring to provide multiple avenues of support. Applicants can opt to attend in-person workshops or virtual office hours, which will be held on Tuesdays up until the deadline. Also available for those seeking tailored help is an organization referred to as Almost Real Things, known as a Community Amplifier. They'll be offering workshops and can be contacted for application assistance through email or phone. All submissions are due by 7 p.m. on May 14, and more information can be found online.
