Tragedy struck on a bustling Los Angeles freeway early Monday morning as a multiple-vehicle collision claimed the life of one person and disrupted the commute for thousands. The fatal incident occurred around 5 a.m. on the northbound lanes of the 101 Freeway at Campo de Cahuenga in Studio City, involving a sedan, a Jeep Wrangler, and a truck towing portable restrooms. The wrecked vehicles blocked traffic lanes, with the aftermath captured in roadside footage showing the severe damage sustained by the sedan and Jeep Wrangler against the truck's trailer.
according to NBC Los Angeles, the victim, whose identity has yet to be released pending notification of relatives, died at the scene.
Adding to the morning's chaos, first responders, having tended to the victims, ensnared in the wreckage, quickly blocked off all but one lane to initiate the investigation, as reported by KTLA. The resulting traffic snarl, with a SigAlert issued, suggested clearances weren't expected until approximately 7:30 a.m., however, the blockade lasted slightly longer than projected.
Confirming the gravity of the situation, multiple victims were transported to nearby hospitals for injuries sustained in the morning melee, KTLA conveyed, though the extent of their afflictions and their current statuses are unknown.
Following several hours of investigation and cleanup, travel on the 101 resumed in a limited capacity, with two lanes reopening around 9 a.m., as reported by CBS Los Angeles. Details regarding what precipitated the lethal clash between the vehicles have not yet been divulged as authorities continue their investigation into the matter.
