A tragic accident on Mira Mesa Boulevard claimed the life of a pedestrian Monday evening, according to a statement from the San Diego Police Department (SDPD). The incident occurred when an unnamed male in his 40s attempted to cross the 9500 block of Mira Mesa Boulevard, not in a crosswalk and against posted "No Pedestrian Crossing" signs.
The pedestrian, P1, in the police report, was struck by a black 2001 Ford Expedition driven by a 70-year-old male, identified as P2. P2 was traveling westbound on the thoroughfare at the time of the accident. Following the collision, the pedestrian was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to multiple fractures, a collapsed lung, and blunt force trauma.
