Peoria is gearing up to go green with a slate of eco-friendly events in honor of Earth Week. Locals looking to lend a hand to the environment can mark their calendars for a series of community activities aimed at celebrating and conserving Mother Earth.

According to a recent release from the City of Peoria, the festivities will kick off bright and early on April 17 with an Arbor Day Tree Planting Event. From 8 am to noon, environmentally conscious students at Sunnyslope Park, 9180 N 71st Ave, Peoria, AZ 85345, are set to dig in and plant trees that will one day provide shade and beauty for future generations.

Later in the week, on April 20, Peoria shifts its focus to both education and action. Starting at 8 am, volunteers can join the Earth Day Cleanup Event at the New River Trail at Rio Vista Community Park, Ramada 4 & 5, 8866 W Thunderbird Rd. This effort puts residents on the front lines in the battle against litter and pollution along one of the city's beloved recreational paths.

The same day, from 9:30 to 11 am, a certified arborist will take the stage at the Rio Vista Community Center for The Best Desert Trees Workshop.
