Tragedy struck Philadelphia on Thursday night when a man was fatally shot inside a takeout restaurant in the Kensington neighborhood, marking another instance of violence in the city. The shooting occurred in the 1900 block of East Tioga Street around 11 p.m., according to Fox29.
A young man lost his life when a gunman approached the entrance of the restaurant and opened fire. Police indicated that the victim appeared to have been targeted by the assailant, a grim detail that adds to the urgency in apprehending the gunman. Surveillance footage from the eatery is being examined by investigators in the hopes of uncovering vital clues in the case, as reported by 6abc.
In a bid to assist in the arrest and conviction of the responsible party, Philadelphia police have announced a $20,000 reward, this was shared by NBC Philadelphia. The deadly incident arrived on the heels of a recent bill signed by Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker which mandates Kensington area businesses to close between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., in an attempt to curb violence in the region.
Despite this latest act of violence, there is a silver lining to the city's grim fight against crime: Philadelphia has seen a decline in deadly gun violence this year. Before the Friday following the incident, so far there have been 72 homicides reported in the city, a drop of about 34% and the lowest as of this date since 2016.
