A child brought a handgun onto a school bus in Phoenix, leading to the discovery and quick securing of the weapon before it reached school grounds. This alarming incident at Madison Rose Lane Elementary School prompted an investigation by Phoenix Police, as reported by officials.
The matter came to light early Monday when a school bus driver, alerted to the presence of the gun, took swift action to secure the firearm on the bus. According to 12news, school administrators were immediately informed upon arrival at the campus located near 7th Street and Bethany Home Road, and the police were subsequently notified to take over the investigation.
In a communication to parents, the school district stated that "The bus driver safely pulled over, secured the item and notified school administration," as obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. Importantly, the incident did not necessitate a lockdown as the situation was perceived to be under control. Officials took the chance to remind families of the critical practice of responsible firearm storage to prevent children from gaining access to dangerous items.
