QTS Realty Trust, a data center powerhouse, is amping up its footprint in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex with plans to erect yet another facility. According to The Dallas Express, the Kansas-based firm aims to begin construction on its fourth data center at its 56-acre campus in Irving later this year, a testament to the region's burgeoning demand for data infrastructure.
The upcoming two-story structure will sprawl over 210,755 square feet, boasting a phased data center plus administrative spaces, mechanical and electrical equipment, site improvements, and gear yards, with an estimated price tag of $152 million. The blueprint, filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, indicates an August start date, with the project's wrap earmarked for November 2025. A leap from its former life as a semiconductor plant, the campus will, when complete, house about 2 million square feet of cutting-edge data center space.
Deepening its presence, QTS's latest Irving facility represents a trend as Dallas-Fort Worth morphs into a central hub for data centers. With the likes of Google planting a $600 million complex in Red Oak, the region's data center market is on a swift incline. In a nod to this growth, Aligned Data Centers has received the green light from Plano's Planning and Zoning commissioners for a 450,000-square-foot facility to supplement its local data warehousing arsenal.
The detail behind the new QTS project, registered under TABS2024014529, reveals HDR Architecture, Inc. as the design firm behind the upcoming DFW1-DC6 data center at 6300 Longhorn Drive, as per the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation's filing. Following its construction, the project is slated for an inspection by a Registered Accessibility Specialist, no later than a year after completion to ensure compliance with the relevant codes. The new establishment will symbolize both a milestone for QTS and the vitality of the tech industry's infrastructure in Texas.
