Queen Creek's Ramona Simpson Receives National SWANA Award for Environmental Preservation EffortsSource: Town of Queen Creek, Arizona

Queen Creek's own Ramona Simpson has bagged a national award for her standout work in environmental preservation, earning accolades far beyond Arizona's borders. As reported by Queen Creek's official town website, Simpson has been honored with the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) 2024 Communication, Education, and Marketing Technical Division Distinguished Individual Achievement Award.

Mayor Julia Wheatley sang Simpson's praises: “We are so proud of Ramona and her leadership and innovation in our community. She has been at the forefront of Queen Creek’s environmental efforts, particularly related to solid waste. She continues to be an asset to the organization and the industry. Congratulations on your well-deserved national recognition!” Wheatley's comments were shared in a recent town announcement.

Simpson, who has been pivotal in pioneering sustainable waste management in Queen Creek, started the ball rolling on the town's residential trash and recycling services back in 2010, garnering support from the Town Council and staffers. The win underscores her longstanding commitment, having served as a former Director of SWANA’s Technical Division and now the Vice President for SWANA’s Arizona Chapter.

SWANA President Art Mercer wasn't shy about expressing his admiration: “This recognition is a testament to our members’ commitment to excellence and innovation in the waste management industry. Your dedication exemplifies SWANA’s goal of driving progress in our industry. Your achievements inspire us, and we are proud to honor your contributions. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor,” as per the town's news release.
