Mother Nature threw a curveball at baseball fans as inclement weather postponed Tuesday's game between the Detroit Tigers and the New York Mets. The matchup was slated for 7:10 p.m. at Citi Field in Queens but was washed out due to persistent rain. Detroit Free Press reports that the game has been rescheduled to take place at 1:10 p.m. on Thursday, April 4.

The weather-induced schedule shuffle means the Tigers are now having to quickly adapt to a tighter schedule, as they need to also prep for an upcoming home opener against the Oakland Athletics on Friday, without the luxury of an off day beforehand. According to CBS News Detroit, Detroit is set to unveil new stadium features, including a more than 15,600-square-foot video board, during their first game at Comerica Park this season.

This postponement has particularly impacted Tigers' pitcher Casey Mize, who is geared up to make his first MLB start since April 2022 after a significant injury. "He's earned this right. He pitched his way onto this team, and he'll take any conditions to compete again at this level," Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told Detroit Free Press regarding Mize's impending return to the mound.

With an unbeaten 4-0 start to the season, the Tigers had a momentum that they were looking to continue, especially after a dominating 5-0 win over the Mets on Monday. However, this play pause may test their resilience as they look to maintain their early success. "What does Mother Nature do? Rewards him with some unknown," Hinch ruefully noted about Mize's postponed start. He stressed the importance of steady play even in less than ideal conditions, telling Detroit Free Press.

As the Tigers move forward in their first season without longtime player Miguel Cabrera, they also have ample celebrations planned throughout the year, including honoring former manager Jim Leyland's induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. They are however fully intent to keep their focus, as they gear up to meet the Mets once again on Wednesday, with a watchful eye on the forecast that threatens to interfere yet again.
