A brazen daytime robbery in Northwest Philadelphia has left a Rite Aid manager without $32,000 in cash, after her rideshare was rear-ended and her deposit forcibly stolen. The incident unfolded on Tuesday around 3:15 p.m., when the manager, en route to the bank in an Uber, was the victim of a strong-armed robbery along the 7200 block of Ogontz Avenue, as reported by 6ABC.
The series of events began with a collision, as the Uber carrying the manager was hit from behind. When her driver exited to inspect the damage, two assailants—clad in all black and hiding their identity with ski masks—emerged from the offending vehicle, forcibly opened the victim's door, and made off with the cash. According to Patch, the suspects were seen in a silver or gray Honda CRV, which also boasted a Lyft sticker and paper tag, last spotted near the intersection of Woolsteen Avenue and Beverly Road.
Authorities have fingered the Honda as tailing the Uber down Ogontz Avenue preceding the crash and robbery. Police have only provided a broad description of the suspects, identifying them as black men in black clothing and masks, with a lookout for the older model CRV. This account was corroborated by CBS News Philadelphia, which also noted the vehicle's distinguishing features—the paper license plate and rideshare decal.
The Philadelphia Police Department is currently seeking any information that may lead to the identification and apprehension of the culprits behind this audacious theft. Anyone with knowledge of the incident or the whereabouts of the gray Honda is encouraged to contact the authorities.
