A kitchen blaze left a house in Fontana largely intact but in need of repairs last night, after San Bernardino County Fire crews thwarted what could have been a disastrous fire.

According to the San Bernardino County Fire, firefighters were called to the fray in the 9900 block of Maloof Ct after a 911 call reported a kitchen engulfed in flames, two people might've been trapped inside, upon arrival, crews found smoke billowing from the home and they swung into action with fire suppression and a search for the occupants. Within a quarter of an hour, the fire was under control, all occupants were accounted for with no injuries reported, only one individual required on-scene medical attention but opted out of further treatment.

In a heart-warming twist to the otherwise grim situation, the San Bernardino County Fire's K-9 Support Dog Program spotlighted as not only integral for firefighter wellbeing, dealing with the toll of traumatic incidents and stress, but also a community stabilizer, the program according to Assistant Chief Jeff Birchfield who spoke highly of the K-9 program, saying, "Increasing mental health awareness and supporting our employees is paramount," he further stated "The K-9 Support Program is just one way we are aiming to help," as per the San Bernardino County Fire.

With firefighters and their K-9 companions including BJ Myers & K9 Scout, Mark Bixler & K9 Baxter, Steven Story & K9 Bailey, and Brent Cannon & K9 Remi, this program under the administration of Assistant Chief Jeff Birchfield has become a beacon of resilience in San Bernardino.
