A brazen daylight robbery went down in La Mesa, when a man armed with a hammer shattered his way through a jewelry store's display case to grab a swag of high-end watches before fleeing the scene. The La Mesa Police Department reported the incident occurred at approximately 10:50 AM on April 5 at a jewelry store in the Grossmont Center Shopping Mall. A quick-footed response from local authorities led to the arrest of 31-year-old Talon Fulcher of San Diego, accused of robbing the jewelry store.
According to the La Mesa Police Department, the suspect entered the store and immediately targeted the watches, using a hammer to break the glass. In a desperate attempt for safety, an employee ran to the back of the store. Fleeing the crime scene in a gold sedan without plates, the suspect was last seen. Responding to the dispatch, Officer Wilson cornered the suspect's car near Jackson Drive, and with the support of other officers, the suspect was efficiently collared on Fletcher Parkway.
The jewelry, with an estimated value north of $7,000, was reclaimed and restored to its rightful owners, the store. "The prompt reporting of this incident by the witness and assistance of Grossmont Security footage was instrumental in directing officers to the suspect," proclaimed the La Mesa Police Department.
Charges hitting Fulcher include robbery, burglary, and grand theft, with his new abode set to be San Diego County Jail. The success of this arrest showcases the effectiveness of prompt, coordinated action between witnesses, security personnel, and the police. Fortunately, amid the chaos, no employees suffered injury during the heist.
