A tragedy unfolded earlier this year when a hit-and-run collision resulted in San José's 13th traffic fatality of 2024. This incident is now under the microscope of the San Jose Police Department's Traffic Investigations Unit.

The grim event occurred on the night of January 7, when a 2017 Toyota Tacoma, driven by an adult male, tore through a red light at the intersection of McKee Road and Francis Drive, barreling into a 2004 Buick Rendezvous according to the San José Police Department's official statement. After inflicting minor injuries on the Rendezvous's driver, the Tacoma veered off and ultimately came to a halt, crumpled against a tree off Berryessa Road.

The chaotic aftermath saw the driver of the Tacoma hospitalized with serious injuries, and on April 1, the driver succumbed to the wounds sustained in the crashes. Santa Clara County Coroner's Office has yet to disclose the identity of the deceased, pending next of kin notification.

Detective Bowen of the San Jose Police Department's Traffic Investigations Unit is calling for any witnesses or those with the knowledge to step forward with information that can assist in shedding light on the case. The detective can be reached directly at [email protected] or via phone at 408-277-4654. Tips can also be shared anonymously through the P3TIPS mobile app or the Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers web portal, with incentives in the form of a cash reward for information leading to an arrest, as highlighted by the department.
