The hunt is on for a hit-and-run driver following a late-night crash on I-5 that left one vehicle overturned and sent another driver to the hospital. According to the Washington State Patrol, the incident occurred just south of SR 516 when a silver 2023 Nissan Sentra, reported stolen out of Tukwila, slammed into a black 2006 Ford Escape at high speeds. The collision, around 11:30 pm on April 8, resulted in the Escape flipping into the median.
Responding to the scene, troopers were informed by a Seattle Police Officer that the individual behind the wheel of the Nissan had fled the scene on foot. Despite a search effort, authorities were unable to locate the suspect. A witness, who alerted the WSP via a 9-1-1 call, recounted that one of the vehicles had rolled over with the driver trapped inside, as reported on the Washington State Patrol's website.
The victim, whose car took a jarring tumble into the freeway divider, was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening. The Washington State Patrol has now called for additional witnesses to help piece together the circumstances leading to this felony hit-and-run and, most urgently, to identify the evasive driver responsible for the crash.
Law enforcement continues to comb through evidence and urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward. The Washington State Patrol is appealing for the public's assistance, imploring those who might know anything related to the collision to help ensure that justice is served.
