In a move to bolster the infrastructural integrity of the 148th Fighter Wing, Senator Hauschild has successfully earmarked $3 million as part of the Senate's Capital Investment Bill. This crucial funding is set to be channeled into the construction of a state-of-the-art hangar, the necessity of which was backed by the Duluth Chamber of Commerce due to restrictions on military advocacy.
Pushing past legislative hurdles, Hauschild has consistently lobbied for a total of $25 million over two sessions to support the 148th, asserting that the base's current hangar situation is frankly, in shambles. "We are proud to have the men and women of the 148th Fighter Wing right here in the Northland because we know how important they are to our state and national security," Hauschild said in a statement. The senator aims to not only secure but to also rapidly push through a bipartisan vote to ultimately deliver the promised funds.
The proposed hangar development reflects a deeper commitment to both state and national defense, providing the Fighter Wing with the necessary infrastructure to efficiently maintain its operations. The push for funding was particularly propelled after Senator Hauschild visited the base last summer, where the compelling need for renovations was made abundantly clear.
Senator Hauschild's advocacy for the Air National Guard Base speaks to a greater narrative of support for military establishments within the legislative domain. "Ensuring the long-term viability of the 148th Air National Guard Base is a top priority for me, which is why I have fought to include funding for their much-needed hangar upgrades since entering the State Senate. I’m proud to say that we have secured the first round of funding in this year’s bonding bill, now we must push for a strong bipartisan vote to deliver it," Hauschild confidently declared in the Senate, as reported by the official Senate DFL statement.
