The scenic stretch that's been a no-go zone for vehicles for nearly a winter spell is springing back into action to the delight of local dwellers and adventure seekers.

Following its temporary closure due to seasonal conditions, this key east county artery is reopening its gates between mileposts 10 and 14 just west of Forest Service Road NF-63. Back in early November, a ribbon-cutting bash saw the likes of county officials and community members marking the road's initial comeback after severe flooding had left it in disrepair back in 2006. With the winter chill behind us, Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers appears over the moon. "Now, with spring finally upon us, residents, travelers, and recreation enthusiasts can enjoy a full season of what they waited years to experience," he shared with jubilant tones according to a release on the Snohomish County website.

The Index-Galena Road serves not just as a passageway for those residing in the North Fork Skykomish River Valley, but it's also the gateway to the recreational haven known as the Wild Sky Wilderness area. The near two-decade absence of this thoroughfare has undoubtedly left a void, making its restoration a cause for community celebration and outdoorsy excitement.
