A regional SWAT team remained at a Monroe apartment complex until about 11 p.m. Thursday after gunfire was reported through an apartment door during a delivery, and detectives stayed past midnight, HeraldNet reported. The delivery driver was not hurt, according to KIRO 7 News.
The shooting occurred just before 5 p.m. in the 18000 block of Blueberry Lane. Police reviewed surveillance footage showing a person leaving the apartment through a back door before officers arrived, HeraldNet reported. When the tactical team entered, no one was inside. As of Friday, no arrest had been made and the investigation was ongoing, the outlet reported.
A regional team, shared resources
North Sound Metro SWAT is a joint team formed by participating cities to combine resources for high-risk criminal activity, according to its interlocal agreement. The City of Mountlake Terrace says the team responded to an average of seven incidents a year over the last five years, counting both planned search warrants and callouts. That figure describes the team’s activity overall; it does not establish why it was called to this Monroe incident.
The driver’s safety also puts the incident in a broader workplace context, though national findings cannot show how often such events occur in Monroe. A National Safety Council report cited by ISHN says frontline retail and transportation workers face the highest risk of criminal-perpetrated violence. That national finding does not explain this shooting or establish a local trend.
The driver’s delivery company and the identity of the person seen leaving the apartment were not established in the reports cited here. The investigation remained active as of Friday, according to HeraldNet.
