A hiker found himself in a dicey situation on Saturday evening when he became stranded on a remote section of the Temescal Ridge Trail in the Santa Monica Mountains. The Los Angeles Fire Department launched a ground and air rescue operation after night fell and rain pelted the hiker, adding to the peril of his predicament.

According to a press release on the LAFD’s official website, the adult male was stuck south of Skull Rock in Topanga State Park before a rescue helicopter located him. Despite the dangerous conditions, the hiker, whose identity remains undisclosed, was found uninjured.

The rescue operation involved lowering a Flight Paramedic to the hiker’s location for an initial medical assessment. With the elements stacked against them, the duo's only way out was up. "He and the LAFD Flight Paramedic will soon be hoisted aboard the hovering helicopter, to shuttle the man to a safe location beyond the wilderness," the department detailed in their narrative of the rescue.
