A suspect in his fifties was shot by law enforcement during a standoff in Woodbury yesterday morning. The incident began when Woodbury Police Department officers, assisted by the Washington County SWAT team, responded to a report of stolen license plates at about 10:30 a.m. in a local retail area, as per the City of Woodbury Minnesota.

The authorities, after discovering an unoccupied vehicle bearing the stolen plates, were confronted by the suspect who became combative upon their attempt to arrest him. According to the City of Woodbury Minnesota, the officers retreated after noticing the man was armed. The suspect then barricaded himself inside the vehicle, ignoring officers' attempts at negotiation and deployment of less-than-lethal force.

By procedure, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension now has control over all body and dash camera footage. They will lead the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, while Woodbury Police look into the original crime involving the stolen license plates.  A press briefing held later on Monday at Woodbury Public Safety provided additional details on the ongoing investigations.
