Suspected DUI Driver Arrested After Injuring 4 Children in Cupertino CollisionSource: Google Street View

A horrific accident shattered the peace of Cupertino over the weekend when a suspected DUI driver plowed into a group of children, injuring four. The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office reported that the victims, aged 11, 8, 7, and 4, were on a sidewalk at the time of the incident. According to KRON, the children were struck by a silver Mazda pickup truck driven by 38-year-old Adam Wu of Cupertino, who is believed to have been under the influence of narcotics.

Witnesses called 911 to report the accident, describing the scene as horrific, which happened around 6:14 p.m. this past Saturday at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Stevens Creek Boulevard. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is "not only against the law," said the sheriff's office in a statement obtained by SCCoSheriff's X post, "but it puts the lives of everyone in danger," reinforcing the gravity of the regrettable choices that led to the collision.

After colliding with another vehicle and hitting a power pole, Wu's truck ultimately crashed into the group of children. In a statement obtained by KRON, the Sheriff's Office expressed that they were "heartbroken by a major collision that injured four young children." Emergency responders arrived at the scene and provided life-saving measures, ensuring all victims were transported to local hospitals. One of the children was reported to remain in critical condition as of Monday evening.

Following the collision, Wu was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and causing bodily injury and booked into a jail in San Jose. As per the sheriff's office X post, the Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Specialists team has been activated and is conducting a thorough investigation into the accident. The area around the crash scene remained closed to traffic while this extensive investigation was underway.

The local community and authorities have been left to pick up the pieces after such a preventable tragedy. Officials urge anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Sheriff's Office Traffic Investigative Division at 408-868-6600 in hopes of gaining a clearer understanding of the circumstances that led to the catastrophe and ensuring justice for the injured children and their families.
