A tragic event unfolded in southeast Dallas when a 16-year-old boy was hit by an SUV while walking on the service road of Highway 175. The incident, which happened on Monday night, resulted in the death of a young pedestrian after being struck near the intersection of 175 and Beltline.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the accident in a traffic alert that was issued shortly after 8 p.m. on April 22. As per the report, the driver of the Cadillac SUV swerved to avoid the stalled traffic and collided with the teen who was on the shoulder of the road. The driver remained at the accident scene and cooperated with the deputies, according to The Dallas Express.

Following the crash, the teen was rushed to an area hospital but unfortunately lost his life due to the injuries sustained, as reported by the Dallas County Sheriff's Office. The identities of both the deceased teen and the driver involved in this somber event have not yet been released to the public.

The continuous danger for pedestrians in Dallas references a study from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), which ranks the city as one of the most deadly for pedestrian safety. The concern of Dallas citizens regarding pedestrian safety is evident as over 1,000 of them have signed a petition demanding the closure of Akard Street to traffic in the wake of a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred last year.

Currently, the incident remains under the investigation of local authorities as they attempt to piece together the events that led to the tragic loss of a young life on one of Dallas' busy roadways. This latest pedestrian fatality adds to the alarming statistics of traffic-related accidents and underscores the inherent risks for those who traverse the city on foot.
