A tense encounter on a rural Texas road led to tragedy last night when a Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) deputy was involved in a fatal shooting. Officials say the incident occurred after deputies responded to a 911 call for a welfare check at 9301 Hog Eye Road around 9:36 p.m.
The situation rapidly escalated when deputies arrived at the scene and found a man acting erratically. Attempts to peacefully de-escalate completely failed when the man suddenly presented a weapon. In response, a deputy was forced to quickly draw and fire his weapon, striking the man who was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by a statement from the sheriff's office.
