West Philadelphia was the scene of a triple shooting Monday evening that left three men wounded, as the city grapples with an epidemic of gun violence. The shooting incident took place on the 5300 block of Chancellor Street around 5:35 p.m., according to police reports. FOX 29 reports that the victims are now recovering from several gunshot wounds.
Details regarding the circumstances that led up to the violence are still forthcoming. However, police speculate the shooting was the result of gunfire exchanged between two parties. An ongoing investigation is underway to piece together the events of that fateful evening. In a telling of incidents from earlier the same day, another shooting in West Philly left a teen gunned down, just hours before this incident, NBC Philadelphia reported.
The recent surge in shootings has caused growing concern among citizens and law enforcement alike. As per CBS News Philadelphia, another separate shooting incident occurred earlier in the day at the Tiffany Fletcher Rec Center, once known as the Mill Creek Recreation Center. A 17-year-old and a 22-year-old woman were shot just before 4 p.m., in the area of the 5000 block of Ogden Street. The relationship, if any, between these shootings remains unclear, and police have not established a solid connection between the violent events.
