Chaos erupted Saturday night at Glendale's Westgate Entertainment District when a scuffle swiftly scaled into a shooting, leaving two men injured. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, police raced to the scene around 10 p.m. near Glendale Avenue and 95th Avenue after receiving reports of gunfire and found one man shot and another brutally beaten.
As officers who were already on duty at Westgate tended to the victims, it was quickly confirmed that the violent outbreak had no link to the Final Four basketball festivities booming across the street. "This is an isolated local incident and IS NOT in any way related to the Final Four event or festivities. The individuals involved were NOT attendees of the event," the Glendale Police stressed in a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. The suspects, escaping uncaught, sparked a manhunt that is currently underway.
The victims, both expected to weather their injuries, were rushed to a local hospital. One of the men received treatment for a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening, while the other grappled with the aftermath of a physical assault, as reported by AZ Family. Their names and further details regarding their conditions remain undisclosed.
As the investigation unfolds, Glendale police are appealing to the public for assistance, amid clarifications that the crimes committed under the shroud of night bore no badge indicating a linkage to the college hoops excitement nearby. "This is an ongoing investigation and further information can be provided as soon as it becomes available," Glendale Police said. Community members with information are encouraged to 'see something' and consequently to 'say something.'"
