Vallejo Man Arrested in Novato on Suspicion of Possessing Burglary Tools, Firearms, and DrugsSource: Novato Police Department

Early Sunday morning in Novato, California, police arrested Rafael Lara, a 23-year-old resident of Vallejo, on suspicion of carrying burglary tools, drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a loaded firearm. The Novato Police Department (NPD) reported that the bust happened around 4 a.m. after a community member flagged a suspicious vehicle on San Marin Drive and Santolina Drive.

The patrol officers found Lara's hood popped open, with the vehicle partly obstructing traffic. On approaching, they spied evidence of drug use inside the car, police said. Failure to cooperate led to Lara's removal from the car after "several minutes attempting to coax the occupant out of the vehicle and de-escalate the situation," according to the Novato Police.

A search of the vehicle revealed not only the narcotics and paraphernalia but also tools commonly associated with burglary and the loaded gun, which included a large capacity magazine. Lara now faces multiple charges, including possession of burglary tools, an unregistered loaded firearm, drugs, and paraphernalia, as well as resisting arrest and delaying the investigation.

Following the incident, the Novato Police Department expressed gratitude toward Novato residents for their vigilance and prompt reporting of the alleged criminal activity. "We are thankful our officers were able to safely intervene in this situation and potentially stop other crimes from occurring," their statement read. Citizens are reminded to be alert and report any suspicious activity to the police.
