A Vallejo man has been hit with a 10-year prison sentence for a large stash of child pornography and for sexually abusing young relatives, officials said. Jose Navarro Mendoza, 45, was handed down the heavy-duty sentence by Senior United States District Judge Charles R. Breyer on April 12th, as per a release from the office of United States Attorney Ismail J. Ramsey and the FBI.

Navarro Mendoza was indicted by a federal grand jury in August of last year, pleading guilty to one count of possession of child pornography. Following the plea, investigators unearthed over 1,500 images and videos on Navarro Mendoza's devices, including nearly 100 files showing the abuse of infants and toddlers, the government's sentencing papers revealed.

According to government documents, Navarro Mendoza also preyed on several members of his own extended family, grooming and victimizing them. Minors involved, aged between 6 to 11, gave harrowing accounts of the abuse.

Post-sentence, Judge Breyer also prescribed five years of supervised release once Navarro Mendoza slid out of prison. The case was brought to a head by Assistant United States Attorney Jared Buszin with Christine Tian lending a helping hand, following an FBI investigation. "The prosecution is the result of an investigation by the FBI," according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California.
