Warren, Michigan's narcotics scene has taken a significant hit as three individuals face arraignment in the wake of a substantial drug bust in Macomb County. Thomas Phillip King, 34, of Clinton Township; Brian Allen Mathews, 33, of Detroit; and Lisa Doss Lawrence, 56, of Clinton Township, appeared in Warren's 37th District Court before Judge Michael Chupa to answer to a series of weighty charges. This comes after a Special Investigation Narcotics Unit's month-long operation targeting illicit drug activities across the county.
King's bond was set at a staggering $1 million, while Lawrence's was fixed at $200,000. Mathews, who has a history of felony convictions, saw his bond set at half a million dollars, as reported by The Detroit News. Detailed in the Warren police statement, and subsequently covered by Macomb Daily, the authorities nabbed over 250 grams of cocaine, 120 grams of methamphetamine, and a dangerous 209 grams of fentanyl.
Acting Warren Police Commissioner Charles Rushton described the investigation as "fluid" and praised the "constant communication and teamwork" between the two collaborating law enforcement agencies. Mathews, a convicted felon and currently on federal probation for previous drug trafficking and weapons offenses, is alleged to have been the primary narcotic distributor. A prior attempt to stop the suspects' vehicle resulted in a chase, with the suspects tossing drugs out of the window before they could be later identified and apprehended, shared WWJ Newsradio.
The arrests led investigators to a Clinton Township home linked to the suspects. There, Lawrence was seen exiting with duffel bags and assault rifles, igniting another pursuit that ended near Eight Mile Road and Groesbeck Highway. Investigators recovered further evidence linking the suspects to the narcotics trade, finding bulk ammunition and more narcotics packaging materials in subsequent searches, according to reports from The Detroit News.
Charges against the trio include a variety of drug-related offenses and for King and Lawrence, counts of fleeing and eluding. With the suspects maintaining not-guilty pleas; their legal journey is just beginning, as the court dates are expected to be set in the coming weeks.
