To combat the misuse of medications and provide a safe disposal option for residents, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office together with the Washington County Department of Public Health and Environment is rolling out a "Take Back" event. Set for April 20 at Wildwood Elementary, the initiative offers a free and anonymous way for locals to offload their unwanted drugs.
The collection is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event aims to responsibly dispose of medications that could otherwise fall into the wrong hands or pollute the environment if not discarded properly. Importantly, while the service is open to all, medication from businesses is not accepted, according to Washington County, Minnesota.
There’s a wide range of items that residents can bring to the event. These include household prescription, over-the-counter, and pet medications. Accepted forms of medications include pills and capsules, blister packs, creams and gels, unused EpiPens, and even inhalers and patches, as per the Washington County, Minnesota.
Furthermore, liquid medications, powders, and sprays can be turned in, although there's an emphasis on ensuring that all liquids are sealed to avoid spills.
