The Westland Police Department has intensified their plea to the public in aiding the search for James Sanford, 75, who has been missing for almost a week, as reported by The Detroit News. Sanford, a resident of the 37000 block of Westwood Circle near Joy Road and Newburgh, disappeared from his home around 2 p.m. on April 8. Despite exhaustive air and ground searches employing thermal imaging devices, authorities have not found any trace of him.
Sanford is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 220 pounds with grey facial hair on his chin. Seen last wearing blue sweatpants, a black zip-up hooded sweatshirt, black gym shoes, and a blue "USA Baseball" ball cap, he is now considered missing and endangered, according to ClickOnDetroit. Notably absent when he left, Sanford requires medication that he did not take with him, enhancing concerns for his wellbeing.
The Westland police have not only canvassed the immediate area but extended their search with the assistance of the Michigan State Police Aerial Unit. However, their efforts have not yet been fruitful. Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, "endangered" is the term used by the department to classify Sanford's status, underlying the urgency in locating this senior citizen.
Officials urge anyone with information regarding Sanford's location to come forward. In a statement obtained by Hometown Life, the Westland Police Department requests that "anyone who may have information on Sanford's whereabouts call 734-722-9600." A community holds its breath, waiting for the safe return of one of their own, as the search for James Sanford continues with fervor and hope.
