A tense standoff in Northwest D.C. ended with a woman in cuffs after she pointed a gun at officers during an attempted eviction, police said. The incident unfolded on April 10, when U.S. Marshals arrived at the 4000 block of Cathedral Avenue to serve an eviction notice.
The Metropolitan Police Department stated that 59-year-old Camille Ceasar threatened to shoot the marshals, prompting law enforcement to declare a barricade and call in the Emergency Response Team, MPD officials reported. The standoff saw Ceasar brandish a firearm at officers not once but twice, leading to her arrest on multiple charges, including two counts of assault on a police officer.
In a statement obtained by the MPDC, authorities detailed the recovery of a handgun and several rounds of ammunition from Ceasar's residence, after officers managed to apprehend her without incident. Charged with threats to kidnap or injure a person on top of the assault charges, the Northwest D.C. local faces serious legal repercussions.
The MPD’s handling of the situation, which involved a considerable response including an armed Emergency Response Team, highlights the evolving nature of eviction proceedings, which can quickly escalate into dangerous confrontations.
