A tragic mishap struck a homeless encampment in LaGrange early Friday morning, leaving a woman with severe burns. Firefighters from the LaGrange Fire Department were called to the scene behind 950 LaFayette Parkway at approximately 3:43 a.m. to find a 51-year-old woman who had suffered grievous injuries when her tent became engulfed in flames.

Authorities reported that the fire was caused by a nearby portable gas stove, which ignited a blaze that quickly consumed the tent. The prompt response of the team on the scene allowed the fire to be extinguished rapidly, preventing it from spreading through the wooded area. Fox 5 Atlanta mentioned that the stove was being operated by a male individual at the time of incident.

The injured woman was urgently airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for treatment, as noted by the LaGrange Police Department. While the incident did not claim any additional victims, the woman's burns on her lower extremities were of serious nature.

In a report by Atlanta News First, the fire department emphasized the rapid containment of the fire, which had erupted in a portion of the woods being used as a makeshift shelter.
