A fire tore through an Alpine home and scorched roughly 18 acres of land near Loveland Reservoir on Monday afternoon, leaving a man without a home and blackening a stretch of back-country real estate. According to the Times of San Diego, the blaze kicked off around 1:30 p.m. on Sloane Canyon Road, decimating the house before spreading to nearby vegetation.
CAL FIRE, aided by helicopters and air tankers, managed to halt the wildfire's progress by 3:30 p.m., though not before it threatened neighboring properties, Cal Fire Capt. Brent Pascua said via Times of San Diego: "Firefighters were soon able to beat back that flank of the blaze." Fire crews remained on the scene into the night, extinguishing any lingering hot spots. A man displaced by the disaster was aided by the American Red Cross to find emergency shelter, the captain added.
On the same day, CAL FIRE/San Diego County Fire posted that they were responding to a vegetation fire south of Loveland Reservoir near Sloan Canyon, with the tag #Love2IC indicating the location of the incident command.
Updates regarding the containment came later via an X post, where CAL FIRE/San Diego relayed that the forward rate of spread had been stopped at 18 acres. The post also confirmed, "A structure fire that spread to the vegetation was determined to be the cause." They assured the community that firefighters would maintain a presence throughout the night to stamp out the fire threat completely.
