It's that time of year again when the Arizona State Library encourages folks to dust off their library cards and dive into the pages of a good book. The Arizona Summer Reading Program is rolling out its "Adventure Begins at Your Library" campaign, aiming to get people of all ages hooked on reading. The program is set to kick off in 235 public libraries across the state, with various start dates but mostly running from June 1 through August 1.

According to a release from the Arizona State Library, this summer initiative isn't just for kids—it's an all-ages affair. Adults can to finally indulge in their dusty hobby books or chart an escapade across pages, while teens can gain from dynamic activities that align with their interests, volunteer opportunities, or simply hang out with peers.

State Librarian Holly Henley stressed the importance of the program saying, “Reading for at least 20 minutes a day throughout the summer helps build a lifelong reading habit and is fundamental for developing and maintaining literacy skills!” Participants are encouraged to read 20 minutes a day, and libraries will spice up the deal with events such as community scavenger hunts, escape rooms, book clubs, and craft sessions.

"The Summer Reading Program in Arizona public libraries offer fun activities for children and adults alike," Secretary of State Adrian Fontes was quoted in the release. Residents can sign up online or use a paper gameboard to track the minutes read across the summer months. Be it finding a new literary love or rediscovering an old flame, the program makes certain that excitement is found within the library's walls and within the boundless realms of one's imagination.

For those looking to take part in the literary festivities, participation comes at no cost. Details on how to join in on the reading adventure can be easily found by getting in touch with your local library or by visiting their website. The summer is long and the stories endless, so there's no better time to start than now.
