Grill masters in blue are back in action at Arlington's favorite cookout event. The Arlington Police Department announced the return of "Cooking with Cops," offering a free meal to community members. On May 30, Arlington residents are invited to Vandergriff Park for a friendly mingle with local officers as they serve up classic American fare.
From 4 pm to 8 pm, those attending can expect burgers, hotdogs, and an array of snacks and soft drinks, all on the house. Family-friendly fun is the aim of the game here, with the police department looking to strengthen community ties. In a social media post, the Arlington Police Department extended an open invitation, "Come get some food, hang out with Arlington's finest, and have some fun with the family! We hope to see y'all there!" citing the gathering as a staple of community policing in the city.
This community engagement initiative comes amid broader efforts to build trust and foster a rapport between law enforcement and residents. The casual setting is designed to provide a neutral ground where community members can meet officers in a non-enforcement context, breaking down barriers one burger at a time.
The event has previously seen success in connecting cops with locals, particularly youth, in a relaxed environment. The post enthusiastically promises an afternoon of comestibles and camaraderie, concluding with the signature #ArlingtonTX #CommunityPolicing hash tags cementing the event's dual purpose as outreach and celebration.
