It is a big win for seniors in Arlington as the city reaches a new milestone with the construction of their ACTIV adult center now 50% finished. The project, greenlit by voters back in 2017, is on track for an early next year grand opening and will serve as a social and recreational hub for those 50 and up. Located on Green Oaks Boulevard, the center will stand where the old Pierce Burch Water Treatment Plant once did.
City officials are tickled pink over tacking on the final beam to the structure, a move Parks and Recreation Director James Orloski sees as pivotal in enriching the lives of the older population. He told the City of Arlington, Texas, "I'm thrilled to see the final beam in place at ACTIV, marking another significant step toward providing our community with a vibrant space for active adults." His message emphasized the voter-approved facility’s commitment to fostering health, well-being, and social interaction.
ACTIV boasts a full roster of amenities anticipated to include a gym suitable for basketball and volleyball, an indoor swimming pool, a fitness zone, a walking track, and rooms for a mix of activities. The center will also feature space for events, a patio, outdoor pickleball courts, and a community garden. However, the full scope of the offerings hinges on the eventual project budget.
Already known for its strong community focus, Arlington offers multi-generational programming across five other recreation spots. ACTIV will complement existing facilities like Dottie Lynn, The Beacon, and the East Library and Recreation Center. Details on membership costs will drop closer to ACTIV's doors swinging open, with the expectation they’ll align with existing city rec spots.
