Northeast winds could gust as high as 20 mph, potentially bringing new rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches.
For those traveling overnight, there's a 20 percent chance of rain before 1 a.m., followed by mostly cloudy conditions and a low of around 74 degrees. Saturday shows a 30 percent chance of storms after 1 p.m. with a high near 91 degrees, while Sunday's forecast indicates partly sunny weather with a lesser chance of rain and a high approaching 93.
Local news station KXAN reports that a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for Central Texas until 7 a.m. this morning. A line of robust storms is moving through the region, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and lightning. They describe the conditions that Austin motorists will face a slick and sloppy commute.
On top of this morning's downpour, scattered storms with the potential for severe weather, including large hail and damaging winds, could crop up later today. While the weather might settle down somewhat on Sunday, the heat is expected to rise, with temperatures reaching up to 96 on Monday, and potentially hitting 98 by Wednesday.
The rising temperatures will persist into next week, with the NWS forecasting highs reaching into the mid to high 90s and lows in the upper 70s. By Tuesday, Austin could see a high near 97 degrees, and on Thursday, the week may cool slightly with a high near 94 degrees.
