Austin stood out as one of seven "Rising Tech Hubs" nationwide — a category escalating quickly in both the freelancer headcount and revenue. These hubs, including cities like Atlanta and Denver, are noted for their "highly educated, relatively young population with kids in the household," which might just be shaping the future of tech freelancing, according to the report.
As reported by Culturemap Austin, this in-depth analysis of freelancing trends used data from the U.S. Census Bureau's Nonemployer Statistics and the North American Industry Classification System, painting a detailed picture of the economic impact freelancers hold in metropolitan cities across the country. New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami topped the list, heralding the significant earning power of independent workers, with Big Apple freelancers alone generating more than $30 billion in 2023.
