The program is set to have a high-octane start with a kickoff event at the Phoenix Raceway, on June 1 from 10 a.m. to noon. This free gathering promises live music, face painting, and arts and crafts to entertain the whole family. For those without a ride, the Sam Garcia Western Avenue Library is organizing a shuttle, because no one should miss out due to transportation woes. An announcement from the library touted there will be "a live DJ, captivating face painting, creative crafts, and much more." at the event, as per the City of Avondale.
Thriving on community support, the program boasts sponsorships from local businesses like Coldwater Coffeehouse & Bakery and Bricks & Minifigs Avondale. The point-based system they've set up means that the more you read, the more you earn, with prizes lined up for 250, 500, 750, and 1000-point milestones. The ultimate reward for Avondale's avid readers reaching 1000 points? A free pass to cool off at the new Avondale Aquatic Center.
