Bloomington's Fire Station 4 is in the spotlight again, nabbing the prestigious Minnesota Subcontractors Association (MSA) Project of the Year award. This is the second time the new facility has garnered acclaim, previously earning an Award of Excellence from the Minnesota Construction Association earlier this year. Fire Station 4 stood out amongst ten nominees for its outstanding construction and collaborative efforts between subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors.
Completed in August 2023, the project was a massive overhaul to quickly and effectively replace the aging 4,429-square-foot building with a modern 25,286-square-foot station. The general contractor, Terra Construction, was lauded for their work in creating a facility that not only meets today's needs but anticipates the demands of the future. Fire Chief Ulie Seal was particularly pleased, stating, "This improvement has positively impacted the service that we provide the city," according to information released by the City of Bloomington's website.
Located at 4201 West 84th Street, the new Fire Station 4's facilities include three apparatus bays, office space, a training room, eight dorm rooms, and health and safety features designed specifically for firefighters. The design focuses on operational efficiency and firefighter safety, integrating modern best practices like carcinogen separation and on-site training features.
The MSA, known for its commitment to improving the construction industry through safety, education, and legislative reform, recognized the value in Fire Station 4's approach to creating substantially to better serve its community.
