The town of Buckeye, Arizona is set to embark on a new chapter of development and growth, thanks to recent legislative victories in Washington. The FAA Reauthorization bill, which was signed into law by President Joe Biden on May 16, now includes a provision that lifts federal deed restrictions on a sizeable plot of land in the state. This move has been welcomed by city officials and local representatives, as reported by a Buckeye city press release.

Previously under federal deed restrictions due to its past life as a satellite military airfield, the 940 acres of state trust land situated along Verrado Way, between Yuma Road and Van Buren Street, are now ripe for development, Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly and Representatives Paul Gosar and Greg Stanton have been instrumental in this process, fighting tirelessly to have these restrictions lifted which their efforts, combined with the persistent work of Buckeye city officials, now promise to alleviate traffic congestion and spur economic development.

As per a statement from Mayor Orsborn, which was obtained by the City of Buckeye, "This provision in the FAA reauthorization is a game-changer for Buckeye. It helps us address our resident's concerns on traffic congestion and unlocks tremendous potential for economic growth and job creation in our community." He extended his thanks to the congressional delegation for their unwavering support and commitment.

With the federal shackles now off, Buckeye eyes strategic infrastructure improvements to major thoroughfares including Verrado Way, Yuma Road, and Van Buren Street, and, it's not just about easing the flow of cars and trucks; the newly-liberated acreage, proximate to I-10 and neighbors to recent projects by Abrazo and Costco, has the potential to attract businesses, investment, and thus jobs, becoming a magnet for economic activity in the West Valley.

Dubbed "The Landing," this area is being pegged as the West Valley's upcoming hub for recreation, entertainment, working, shopping, and living. Those interested in learning more about "The Landing" and participating in the planning process can find additional information on the Buckeye city website.
