Summer's heating up in Buckeye with a literary twist. Youngsters and the young at heart are being invited to dive into books as the "Adventure Begins at Your Library" summer reading program kicks off. Starting June 1 and running straight through to August 1, Buckeye Public Libraries offer an escape into the realms of fantasy, history, and adventure contained within the pages of countless books.
For the little tykes ages 0 to 10, the adventure starts with a free summer reading activity kit. As reported on the official Buckeye city website, these kits are stuffed with eight weeks of activities and supplies, and also boast recommended reading lists that will kindle the flames of imagination in kids. Participants who log in their reading efforts stand a chance to bag prizes ranging from free books to food rewards doled out by area establishments.
Those who are truly voracious readers and devour over 1500 minutes of storytelling, can claim their spot at a special Harry Potter Party set to take place at Coyote Library. Seems like the perfect potion for book lovers who can't get enough of their favorite wizarding world.
The Friends of the Buckeye Public Library are not slacking either. They've wrangled up some attention-grabbing performers to make appearances every Friday throughout the summer. Patrons should check out the library's calendar, as the Buckeye city website notes, to catch these acts either at the Coyote or Downtown location.
To become a part of this bibliophilic bonanza, interested parties are encouraged to register and keep track of their reading progress through the Maricopa County Library District at maricopacountyreads.org/. And for the insatiably curious, further details about more programs, classes, and other engaging activities available via the Buckeye Library System can be uncovered by visiting buckeyeaz.gov/library.
