Carrollton residents are rolling up their sleeves to tackle litter head-on in their city's streets, parks, and waterways. The City of Carrollton is participating in the Spring 2024 North Texas Community Cleanup Challenge, pushing for a cleaner environment and some local pride in a friendly competition with other North Central Texas Council of Governments member cities. According to the City of Carrollton, Texas, the challenge runs through May 31 and aims to remove as much trash as possible.
The ongoing effort to beautify the community has already seen more than 100 volunteers gather 143 bags of trash. Residents looking to join can partake in the Spring Community Cleanup event today from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Greenbelt Area 3. Here, the community is encouraged to collectively put in effort to make a noticeable difference in the appearance and health of their surroundings. No pre-registration is required and all necessary equipment will be provided by the City, as participants are invited to help as long as they can.
Volunteers who can't make it to today's event have the option to organize their own cleanups, with the support of the City in terms of materials and waste collection upon completion. Even individuals, groups, and organizations such as churches and scout groups are urged to get involved. By filling out a survey or contacting the Carrollton Environmental Services, residents can find or create opportunities to clean up Carrollton.
For those whose dedication to the cause goes beyond a single day of service, the City offers the Adopt-A-Spot program. By adopting a City location for a two-year stint, with a commitment to at least quarterly litter cleanups, volunteers can make a long-term impact in the health and aesthetics of the environment. All activities in support of the cleanup effort count towards the city's tally in the regional challenge, according to the City of Carrollton, Texas.
