Gas lines in Willard-Hay are getting a significant upgrade as CenterPoint Energy embarks on a major infrastructure replacement project this summer. According to the utility company, the efforts to replace aging natural gas lines have been rolling out since May and will push into the early summer months. CenterPoint Energy's crews, specifically from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor, are handling the new installations under sidewalks along several streets including Xerxes Avenue N., Washburn Avenue N., and McNair Avenue N.

Residents should prepare themselves to temporarily say goodbye to easy parking and hello to a bit less road space. In an effort to not completely upend daily life, one Michels Corporation crew has been careful to only reduce traffic to a single lane on McNair Avenue. However, those parking on Washburn Avenue N. might have to start looking to quickly park elsewhere as the crew closes parking on both sides of the street, moving "no parking" signs as they progress through early June, stated CenterPoint Energy.

Work includes placing service lines that connect to these new mains and moving indoor meters outdoors. The disruption is expected to last until the week of May 27, with the possibility of stretching into early June. For those pondering the aftermath, worry not. Q3 Contracting, another contractor playing a role in the restoration, will follow up a few weeks after the gas work is concluded. The goal is to leave neighborhoods looking as they did before the work began—sidewalks restored, boulevards spruced up, and lawn areas with fresh seeds under biodegradable netting expected to disintegrate over a four-month period, according to CenterPoint Energy's briefing.

In the vein of keeping the public informed and tensions low, CenterPoint Energy has advised the community that they can reach out with any queries to the Communication Specialist at 612-321-5546 or via email at [email protected]. Their website is also regularly updated with progress details, indicating a transparency that's essential in these times of communal disruption. "We appreciate your patience as we’re upgrading our infrastructure. We wish you a great season!" the company expressed, as a reminder that this short-term inconvenience is in service of a stronger, safer neighborhood.
