The event, slated for 5 p.m. today, features music by DJ Eternos and ushers a month-long celebration with the rainbow flag waving over city buildings, according to the City of Dallas.
In a demonstration of solidarity and recognition, the pride flags will not only adorn the city hall but various partners, including the Dallas Fire and Police Departments, and organizations like the Dallas Wings and Mavericks. The skyline itself is getting into the act, lighting up in rainbow hues as part of the celebration that starts with the official flag-raising and doesn't end there. Following the ceremony, revelers can keep the party going at the AT&T Discovery District, said to be lit brilliantly in a rainbow of colors while a DJ sets the evening's soundtrack.
A host of city dignitaries are expected to attend, including Council Member Omar Narvaez of District 6 and Mayor Pro Tem Tennell Atkins of District 8, alongside representatives from various community groups and legal organizations, such as Lambda Legal and the Resource Center Dallas. The City of Dallas and its partners promise a Resource Fair at the plaza promising to connect attendees with services and information pivotal to the LGBTQ community.
If Dallas weather plays the spoilsport, the ceremony's backup plan positions the pomp under shelter in the Flag Room at City Hall.
