DC cops are on the lookout for a burglar caught on camera busting into a Southeast business for a quick cash grab, officials said Saturday. In the wee hours of Friday morning, the suspect forcefully made his way into a commercial establishment on the 1100 block of 8th Street, Southeast, and made off with an undisclosed sum, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
While the financial hit to the business is still being tallied, law enforcement is focused on tracking down the brazen bandit. The break-in occurred at 12:34 a.m., and despite the late hour, the MPD is hoping that the community can help shine a light on the suspect's identity. In statement obtained by mpdc.dc.gov, the police detailed the incident and the subsequent flight of the suspect from the scene.
The authorities have made a public appeal, urging anyone who knows anything about the identity of a suspect or the burglary itself to come forward. The Metropolitan Police Department prefers that individuals do not confront or engage with the suspect, but instead call them at (202) 727-9099. For those wishing to remain anonymous, tips can also be sent via text message to the department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
In an effort to encourage community participation, the MPD has publicized a cash incentive: a reward of up to $1,000 is on the table for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons involved. Details of the crime and the MPD's call for community involvement can be found on their official release.
