A Dearborn Heights woman faces murder charges following the death of her boyfriend, whom she allegedly shot in the neck during a domestic dispute, officials said Wednesday. Leah Renee Johnson, 30, was initially charged with assault with intent to murder and wielding a felony firearm, but now stands accused of second-degree murder after her boyfriend succumbed to his wounds.
According to The Detroit News, Nicholas Stevens, 41, was shot on May 1 and died four days later; Johnson was arraigned at the 20th District Court and is being held until her next court appearance the charges include second-degree murder and felony firearm as Stevens was pronounced dead on May 5, as per a release by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
Police officers responded to the shooting at the couple's home on Colgate Street early on May 1, discovering Stevens in the bedroom with a critical injury, reported WWJ Newsradio.
