A young Detroit man's life came to an abrupt end Thursday night when an assailant opened fire into his Mercedes-Benz, causing fatal injuries. The 20-year-old victim, whom police have yet to identify, was attacked around 9:45 p.m. near the intersection of Seaway Drive and West Outer Drive in Melvindale, as reported by clickondetroit.
Melvindale Police have launched a manhunt for the killer, who is believed to have fled in a striking red SUV. Assisting in the search, drones were utilized by Southgate, Dearborn, and Detroit police departments, "on the loose," as they raced to track down the shooter involved in the deadly altercation, as reported by fox2detroit.
Contrary to earlier reports, Melvindale Police Chief Robert Kennaley issued a statement Friday suggesting they are actually pursuing two suspects in connection with the shooting. "Right now it's obviously an ongoing investigation," Kennaley told WWJ Newsradio 950's Luke Sloan. "So, we do have some leads with a couple witnesses that were on scene."
Following the shooting, a section of I-75 was closed but later reopened without offering solace to a community seeking answers and justice. While the motive behind the shooting remains clouded in mystery, local law enforcement agencies continue their search, bolstered by the Michigan State Police K9 Team as they canvassed the area for clues about the suspects who took flight after the shooting. Michigan State Police also brought in K-9 units to aid in the manhunt, as confirmed by multiple sources.
