At an appreciation banquet on May 16, the city celebrated outgoing members of various city commissions, all of whom served without expecting financial compensation for their community service.
Appointed by the City Council, these residents have committed years to advising on matters from airport noise to historic preservation. With their terms ending, the council is gearing repertoire for another round of appointments, with student commission recruitment for the upcoming school year currently in motion. The community's youth are not to be underestimated, many preparing to sit at the council's tables this June, a testament to Eden Prairie's investment in its future leaders.
The Eden Prairie official website lists the honorees including Bob Barker, who lent his expertise to the Flying Cloud Airport Advisory Commission as both chair and vice chair. Not far behind was Sana Elassar, whose contributions to the Human Rights and Diversity Commission span over a decade, including stints as chair and vice chair. Similarly, others like Shahram Missaghi and Christine Kleckner played their parts in promoting human rights and diversity, with Missaghi serving as vice chair till 2023.
Student commission members, vital to infusing young blood into city governance, were also recognized for their tenure.
