Flames engulfed a motorhome on Interstate 15, but firefighters from the North County Fire Protection District quickly took action to save the day. The blaze on May 9 was doused before it could spread to nearby vegetation, the department detailed in a social media post. The motorhome, parked on the highway's shoulder, became a spectacle of fire and smoke as first responders raced against time.
The emergency call was made at 1:49 PM, and the first unit arrived hastily on the scene by 1:56 PM. According to the North County Fire Protection District's Facebook post, the fire was contained strictly to the motorhome, ensuring the safety of the surrounding area. The crew's swift action helped to prevent what could have easily become a larger disaster.
Amid the chaos, the motorhome’s owner had one concern: retrieving her wallet and keys from the ruins. Firefighters delivered on that request, finding the items intact within the charred remains. "Our crew was able to locate an intact wallet inside a burnt purse and a set of keys," said the Fire District in their statement. In an unexpected turn, her vehicle's key fob even survived the inferno, functioning despite the damage to its surroundings.
The motorhome's owner and her cat escaped the incident unscathed, a rare piece of good news amid the misfortune. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by North County Fire. As they sift through the debris to unravel what sparked the incident, gratitude is expressed to @calfiresandiego for their pivotal role in the operation.
